Oprah Winfrey has stepped forward to support those affected by the COVID-19 outbreak by leveraging her fortune. She made intentions to give $10 million to help Americans in need public in April 2020.

Routes To College 

In 2019, Winfrey announced that her charity group, the Winfrey Foundation, will donate $5 million to Pathways to College. The group also matched every gift made on Giving Tuesday in 2020.

The after-school program, which is based in Newark, New Jersey, has helped more than 4,000 children in being accepted to colleges and institutions around the country.

Morehouse University

Oprah Winfrey made a $13 million donation to Morehouse College when she visited in October 2019 to commemorate the program’s 30th anniversary as an Oprah Winfrey Scholar. This was a surprise to the college, as Winfrey had not previously donated to the school. ..

After Hurricane Maria struck Puerto Rico in September 2017, Winfrey proposed to assist. She gave $1 million to the Flamboyan Arts Fund and the Hispanic Federation in April 2019 to help with revitalization efforts.

After Hurricane Maria struck Puerto Rico, Winfrey and King traveled to the island to attend a performance of “Hamilton” and meet with local officials. They found that there was little government aid available to the island, and nearly two dozen concerts were planned to draw attention to the hurricane’s aftermath and the paucity of government aid.

The Time Is Up

Oprah Winfrey has been a vocal supporter of the Time’s Up movement, donating $100,000 to the cause as of January 2018. ..

N Street Village

In an interview on “Good Morning America” in March 2018, Oprah Winfrey announced her intentions to contribute $50,000 to a cause started by 14-year-old Taylor Richardson. Richardson’s goal was to promote her movie “A Wrinkle in Time,” which is set in the fictional town of Megalopolis and features a predominantly black cast. As of press time, Winfrey had pledged to match Richardson’s $50,000 donation. This young person from Jacksonville, Florida, set out to raise money for other young black girls from her area to be able to see the movie. ..

The Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy For Girls 

The Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls was founded in 2007 and is funded by it. Winfrey told Variety in 2017 that she has provided an estimated $140 million over the last ten years to maintain the residential school for disadvantaged girls in grades 8 – 12.

According to Variety, the mother of all female celebrities is committed to helping her daughters live expenses- even if they have to wear braces and school clothes. The mother insists that while on travels, she remains on campus for at least a week and makes it a point to have a fireside chat with each girl. Winfrey isn’t just supporting this audacious notion- she’s actually doing something to help.

Walk To Restore Our Lives 

In February 2018, Winfrey announced that she would match George and Amal Clooney’s $500,000 donation to March For Our Lives. On March 24, 2018, presentations in favor of tougher gun control measures were held around the country.

She wrote, “George and Amal, I couldn’t agree more.” “I’m teaming up with you and will donate $500,000 to ‘March For Our Lives,’ matching what you do. I’m reminded of these noble young people by the 1960s Freedom Riders, who likewise acknowledged, “We’ve had enough, and our voices will be heard.
